INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
“PINIOS POTAMOS: SOURCE OF LIFE AND GROWTH IN THESSALY”
LARISA, November 2018

Pinios river is an aquatic ecosystem of great significance for Thessaly. The very existence of the river reflects the geological history of Thessaly. Over the centuries, the water runoff from the surrounding mountains has affected decisively the life and survival of human communities, their historical development, their civilisation and growth.

Moreover, Pinios river is today essential for the ecological balance and the water potential of the area. At the same time, the river and the aquatic sector in general are inextricably linked to all human activities, productive and unproductive, in Thessaly, determining the present and the future of this geographical area of the country.

The Regional Association of Thessaly Municipalities, as the local authority, is fully aware of the importance of Pinios river and of the water resources in general for our region.

Taking into consideration the above, the Regional Association of Thessaly Municipalities is organising a conference on the subject “PINIOS RIVER: SOURCE OF LIFE AND GROWTH IN THESSALY”, with a view to highlighting all parameters which directly or indirectly relate to Pinios river and the aquatic sector in Thessaly.
